I haven't actually finished reading this yet, but it's one of those books where you have to stop just to appreciate it. I know this book is beyond dark and will make readers uncomfortable, trauma under your belt or not, but it's also the kind of uncomfortable that one should experience.
I thought H.D Carlton had peaked when she wrote 'Does it hurt?', but only in the sense where her writing had simply matured into a masterpiece. Then, I read 'Haunting Adeline' and of course, it was fantastic and hits just the right spots.
Imagine my surprise when she opted to take advantage of this opportunity to twist this dark romance into something important; raw and traumatizing, but also beautiful. Again, I know this book won't suit everyone's stomach, but if you're looking to feel something - I mean, REALLY feel something, you have to read this, and suffer the pain alongside Addie, as well as the love.

This was DARK. I read the content warnings, but I was still somewhat surprised by how detailed the scenes were. It wasn’t a bad read, but I felt a bit dissatisfied at the end. I’m not sure if I was the biggest fan of the character development/ arcs, but enjoyed the story nonetheless.

Wow. I'm wrecked. Couldn't put it down. Part 1 was more graphic and intense than I was ready for. Part 2 wrapped it up beautifully.
