Sadly, I understand the average goodreads rating now…This was cute in theory, but I do think it needed to be longer. The romance was very fast, which I was expecting with a shorter book, but it was very start/stop. Also, Lacy is veryyyy similar to Taylor Swift, and I wish there was more differences in her character. Both MCs backstories felt underdeveloped, and I wish we learned more about her mom, his brother, and his mom. Both MCs also have some attitudes about them in arguments for sure. The ending was very abrupt in my opinion as well; I was ready to flip to the next chapter and then realized that it was the end of the book. She also never says I love you, but he says I love you too???? That confused me quite a bit. I wish I enjoyed this more but it definitely wasn’t the worst book I’ve read.

Light hearted summer romance. BUT… this book is so transparently a Taylor Swift/Travis Kelce fan-fiction, the author should be giving a percentage of book sales to Taylor. It started out fun, but it ultimately felt creepy reading things from Taylor’s (oops! I mean “Lacey’s”) inner thoughts. Zero stars for making the reader feel like a stalker.
Five stars for:

this isn’t the type of book i would have normally picked up, but i was travelling and it was an impulse buy from a gift shop to pass time on an eleven hour journey. i wasn’t expecting much from it, and i certainly wasn’t expecting to enjoy it so much, but it hooked me right in from the beginning.
i loved the chemistry that lacey and jimmy had, and i love that it never really felt like they were strangers meeting for the first time — ordinarily i don’t like that in romance but it was so well executed in heavy hitters. it felt natural, unforced.
there were definitely some angsty moments, that were perfectly written, and i love that it took jimmy going to his ex wife to realize how he needed to change, and actively doing something to change.
i also enjoyed the elements of substance addictions in this book, and how they were handled. the moment between lacey and jimmy after he unexpectedly met lacey’s mom really warmed my heart, tbh. i loved the sensitivity and the care that was given to the topic, and that it was covered from a very nonjudgmental lens which feels rare.
HOWEVER, the only thing i did not appreciate is the way lacey’s PR manager (?) and her assistant reacted to the relationship. i understand being hurt that lacey hid jimmy from them but it kinda… felt a bit too much and unnecessary. i kind of which we’d been shown lacey making amends with claire rather than simply talking about needing to do so. it would’ve been nice to have closure for that particular situation because while i did not appreciate her reaction, i did like her as a character.
i highly recommend this novel! i’ll definitely be rereading it again in the future.

Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism
I liked the first 10/20% of this book then we go downhill. There’s no resolution really. The FMC and MMC don’t even seem to like each other. They fight constantly during this and there’s never a real resolution. There’s no wrap up with her mom, no wrap up with the MMC calling his mom back I feel like that could have been a scene. We don’t find out if he wins the series, if they even stay together. Also I didn’t like that FMC was kind of mean to her assistant not really being a girls girl there!!

Cute brainless romance. I liked the writing a lot and the baseball player was something I enjoyed as an MMC.
