I read this right after finishing The Girl You Left Behind, and don’t feel like it added anything to the book’s narrative, charm, or otherwise. Harshly, these felt like pages an editor may have cut from the original book manuscript because they don’t make you like Sophie and Olivia any better. I get the emotions the two women felt, but the prequel made them both seem whiney and short-sighted.

Another beautiful book by an author who has a way with words. I found myself highlighting huge amounts of words that I just didn't have any words unhighlighted. This author writes like a poet. Every page is another sonnet.

A short novella as a prequel before The Girl You Left Behind comes out was kind of exciting. It was great to quickly meet the characters first and then to find them again in the full book. To meet these two couples from two very different time periods, I was intrigued to find out how they would intersect in the full story.

I would say this is definitely worth picking up before reading the full book; its nice to get a quick glimpse of the characters before you start the novel.

it was ok, certainly leaving the door open for a full sized book which I will probably read at some point.

I thought this book was fine. It didn't have much depth to it, not that I expected a complex story from a novella, and very little happened. It spent a lot of time on conflicts that didn't interest me and weren't very compelling. I know this is a prequel to another book by this author, but it did nothing to want me to read the book that follows it.

Unfortunately I was not a fan of this book. Maybe it was the couples, maybe it was the way she went back and forth between the couples. I don't know. But all I know is, if my husband chose business over me on our honeymoon, there is nothing he could tell me to get me to take him back. I understand the whole love triumphs over all but it still came off as a little codependent instead of real love. Especially for Sophie; that was not real love at all. That was co-dependency. And Liv's husband gave me no reason to think that things would be different in the future. I guess that's the point of books like this. To allow for debates on what they should've done differently etc.
