Dammmnnnn.
This story was wild! This is my introduction to LaRocca's work and I'm excited to devour more.
The book was sad, disgusting, and very hard to put down.

Death can feel like a fantasy. When someone you love is taken from the world, sometimes you pinch yourself to see if you are in the worst nightmare you've ever had. Other times, you invite a giant spider into your home.
Grief is a pest. It takes advantage of you and feeds off of you like a parasite. If you aren't careful, it will chew you up and spit you out, change you for the worst.
Death is a teacher -- a reminder. It tells you to hold life close, to reexamine the way you lived before, as the eternal clock ticks ever onward.
All of this is encapsulated beautifully in Eric LaRocca's book. I have never once put a book of his down when I started reading it: all of them were finished in a day. He has such a unique and poetic talent that is always enchanting. Bravo.

I was sucked in right away with the writing style but often felt like “what am I reading?”. Can’t say I really enjoyed it??
This was a wonderfully creepy and absolutely wild ride. Quite an allegory for grief and trauma that loved.

“What are you afraid of?” he asked. “Letting go, or being left with nothing to hold?”
This nightmare-fuel folktale tested my arachnophobia and horrified me in many ways but I loved every second of it. Eric’s prose truly keeps me hooked with every book of his I read.
5 stars!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Massive thanks to Eric for providing me an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
