dark mysterious tense fast-paced

very sad, i wanted to love this one. obviously didn’t by the fact it took me two and a half months to finish a book that was less than 100 pages. just as weird as the other two i’ve read, but in a very different way. will still read whatever eric larocca puts into the universe though.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m just not into the writing style. I saw someone else in reviews say it’s written in a way that makes 97 pages feel drawn out and I 100% agree. It seems like an easy read, and it technically is, but I found myself constantly checking the page number to see how far I had gotten. Reading felt less enjoyable and more like a chore...

That aside, as the story plays out it’s definitely weird and I get the very effed up layers underneath but it falls short. The disturbing parts that are supposed to hit hard emotionally are brought down by the fantasy elements imo.
