This was one of my book club babe’s picks. I had previously DNF’ed the audiobook. I tried the digital version for BC and that helped because you could skim the sluggish parts. The book had a good concept with important thematic elements. The story drug for me and it was rough to finish. I felt it would’ve been better if it had been edited more and a bit shorter.

This book's storytelling reminds me of how my grandmas both tell stories. Lots of little side runoffs, while actually telling you the story. I liked it, but boy was there a lot to wrap up in the last 20 pages.

I bought it because it was book of the year (and I do love the title) but I couldn't get into it (focusing on everything happening felt difficult) and continuing felt like a chore. I was really excited about this one, too, since the beginning felt strong.

Great piece of fiction. I thought it was going to read more like a murder mystery, but it’s much more historical fiction feeling. Idk if there are any true aspects to the history here, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would!
