Convoluted timeline but well written story about how a group of Jewish Americans and African Americans live in the same neighborhood and work together to rescue a deaf boy who is sent to an insane asylum.

80% of the book was slow paced and a backstory for the multiple plot twists.  I did like the writing, felt for each and every character. But the last part felt so rushed through. Still though great story telling.

This was interesting, not earth-shattering but I liked it. A lot of plot threads for sure, I liked the ending though (even if, at a point in time, I feel like the author inserted his own takes in the form of description, but whatever, those are my own feelings).
