I didn't know much about the Astors, but this book was extremely interesting as I started learning about them. The story overall is just heartbreaking but the author did a fantastic job of weaving details of love and adventure in. Read this if you're fascinated by the Titanic and life in the early 1900's.

Continuing on my Gilded Age trend, I really enjoyed this historical fiction book. Hard to believe so much happened to this young woman in such a short period of time. The book layer it on a bit thick at times, but it was a really good read and swept you up in the time period. The romance seemed a little forced but great story.
If you’re looking for large dramatics like the Titanic movie, this isn’t it! It’s more of a factual life story of Colonel and Mrs. Astor. It’s a lull story that has more fact than action and you obviously know how it ends before it starts. The parts about the Titanic and the Carpathia were the most interesting in my opinion. I loved reading about society during this era too, with the courting and dinner parties. Just keep in mind that Mrs. Astor was a minor when she met the Colonel who was in his mid-late forties.
I did not enjoy this book very much. The author goes between calling the dog by its name then later its breed (that's weird), as well as Madeline and Maddy even after it states, she prefers Madeline. There were awkward quotes that had scene descriptions in the middle of the quote. The story was good but the writing is not my style.
