The Season

Sarah MacLean

3.5 Cute and fun.

Very cute story, loved the mistery element and the way the romance of the characters was handled. The one other thing that made its mark is the friendship from both the girls and Blackmoor with Alex's brothers. Being an only child, I've always treasured and valued my friends and really appreciate stories that bring close friendships to life.

Lady Alexandra is seventeen, beautiful, strong willed, sharp tongued, and absolutely determined to resist the temptations of being a debutante by spending her time at balls hanging out with her friends rather getting manipulated into a marriage by her well meaning but equally determined mother. However, when the Earl of Blackmoor is mysteriously killed, Alex is swept into more drama than the season could ever hope to deliver when she offers to help the new devilishly handsome earl Gavin uncover the truth. Will the two longtime friends be able to resist their growing attraction to each other in time to solve a possible murder and avoid ruining Alex’s reputation?

I’ve been on a quest this spring to find YA historical romance novels and this backlist friends to lovers delight from Sarah MacLean absolutely met all my requirements: funny, sexy, filled with action and adventure. Alex is such a spunky and wonderful heroine, and as she and Gavin’s friendship grows naturally into something more, I was as intrigued by the mystery (spies! Treason! Hidden messages! Scoundrels!) as I was by the romance. As much as I love Sarah MacLean’s steamier novels, this closed door gem is also not to be missed especially for younger readers.

Not my favorite but I'm giving it three stars because I think it is a great YA period book. Cute romance without sex. Solid friends. Loving family. Light mystery. I would have shared it with my daughter when she was 12-14.

This book is a great Regency Romance!!

i love it when you are walking along, listening to a book and you smile.

A fun and engaging read- I find the protagonist's protofeminism to be a stretch, but it is fiction, after all- strict adherence to probable social norms isn't required.

This was a sweet book & a good intro to Historical Fiction for teens. The main character is 17 so it is just innocent first love with nice, likable characters.

ok, never mind, vicki gave this a 1.
