As my first Artwood novel, I do give her props as a storyteller and able to make these characters 3 dimensional. The given metaphor of consuming women from life from everything society tells us to be is not a new concept but I bet it was in 1969 and women of today are still coming to that realization, if they're lucky. It's not awful to want things that we are expected to have and a good amount of people get the choice to confide in these social conformities but that's the thing choice. Choices are being stripped away every day and women have been stripped away choices for their whole lives but when realize what is being done to us and the way we get treated, (if luck is on our side) escape and (comically speaker) stop the fork from diving into us. I felt unserious at the end as the meaning of this story was literally fed to me but overall a decent book about a woman awakening.
