I really enjoyed this--probably my favorite Atwood I've read. Clever, lively, and funny--I laughed aloud in spots.

Very weird. I love Atwood’s writing style and creativity. This early works was a bit rough yet oddly endearing

I was reminded today that I had to read this one in High School. It was more of a diatribe than a story. I remember the infamous pink cake and know that I will never eat pink cake again...
People describe it as satire, but that would imply it had humour... Nope, don't remember ever cracking a smile. More like a grimace.
Not my cuppa tea I guess.

"Marian, you're rejecting your femininity!"

"Nonsense! It's just a cake!"

This book is poignant and hilarious.

In college, reading Margaret Atwood’s commentary on the patriarchy and capitalism/consumerism completely changed my way of thinking. This book, along with fight club, heavily influenced my views of society. I returned to this book 20 years after I first read it. I enjoyed it just as much this time around. Atwood’s writing is so amazing - the way she perfectly demonstrates Marian’s gradual separation from herself, the subtle change between first and third person, the food symbolism… perfection! I still recall Marian every time I’m pushing a grocery cart down the aisle.
