Certainly not Atwoods’s best work- if I’m honest, I’m not exactly sure what she was trying to say with this one because, for me, the “self-cannibalism” metaphor just fell a bit flat.

Gonna have to sit with this one for bit before I have things to say

A good feminist story of remaining true in the face of what society thinks you should do or be. I loved Atwood's shift of narration to convey the change in Marian's self-esteem, and the building of tensions to the party. An easy and engrossing read. Looking forward to reading more from Atwood.

Decent piece of feminist literature that’s enjoyable to read but there’s not much of a crazy plot. Very colorful/descriptive language that makes you feel as though you’re actually there. The ending definitely felt a bit rushed/could be refined; there’s lots of preface for a quick ending. I would still recommend it to girls my age (early/mid 20’s), particularly for those who are looking to get married. Crazy to read in 2025 as it was published over 50 years ago, and the themes (in the US) still ring true.
slow-paced

These characters just didn't really do it for me. I enjoyed some of the themes but I struggled to finish this book because I didn't feel strongly about any of you he characters and was confused by a lot of their actions

wow. this was my first book by margaret atwood and i think i’m in love. atwood’s writing style is unique and witty, and i especially enjoyed the part 2 of the book with it’s 3rd person narrator. the main theme of the edible woman is relationships and how they transform us, with Marian’s emotional and mental evolution providing a fascinating look at love, identity, and societal expectations. this was an amazing read and i’m excited to read more of atwood’s work! :)
