This was a reread for me, and it was better now that I'm older. I think I read this for the first time in high school and I don't remember laughing so much (likely the lack of life experience meant I didn't get all the jokes).
Clearly written in a time where societal norms were different, the issues of marriage and kids, routine and coupling are still relevant. And it's good to remember that there's always been people who were nauseated by all of the above.
I've read a lot of Atwood since and this one ranks high with me, especially considering it's her first novel.

I guess I was hoping for something weirder than this turned out to be. Would be a good book for an English class
Minor: Homophobia
My... Fourth Atwood, I think. My only reason for reading it was that I'm doing a challenge where one of the tasks is to read a book published in your year of birth. This came out in 1969, but was written in 65, and the central character is in advertising so straight away I'm thinking "Mad Men", and although it's obviously not a lush TV series, and although they aren't hard-talking execs, it's not an entirely fatuous comparison. It was written in the sixties, so the differences between that world and the world of today aren't underscored for effect, which is a relief. However, there's a sense of the old, predictable order coming to an end and being replaced by the social changes of the later sixties. In this case, the main change is the dawning of the women's movement. The protagonist is restless and unwilling to be subsumed into her marriage, and comes to a realisation that she needs to take back her autonomy. This is shown quite clearly by the switch from first person to third and back to first again. Cannibalism is a metaphor (obviously, from the title). She is being swallowed up, devoured, by her fiancé.
I enjoyed it very much. Its not as startling as The Handmaid's Tale but it's better written.
