Na tym kończy się moja cudowna przygoda z główną serią książek o Muminkach. Nie wiem, czemu nigdy wcześniej ich nie czytałam... Są po prostu wspaniałe, dorosła osoba może tyle wyczytać między wierszami... Na pewno do nich wrócę!

Was für eine riesige Mogelpackung! Wie kann das bitte ein Band der Mumins-Reihe sein, wenn die Mumins kein einziges Mal in der ganzen Geschichte vorkommen? Stattdessen sammeln sich zahlreiche Figuren wie der Hemul, die Filifjonka und der kleine Homsa im verlassenen Haus der Mumins und leben mehr schlecht als recht miteinander. Zwischen den Zeilen steckt hier ziemlich viel Herbstmelancholie, manchmal hatte ich sogar das Gefühl es wird das Bild einer Winterdepression gezeichnet, aber ehrlich gesagt war ich zu frustriert mit dem der Abwesenheit meiner Lieblingstrollwesen, um dem viel Aufmerksamkeit zu schenken. Absoluter Reinfall!

"I never looked at them very closely, they were just there, you know..." He fumbled for words, and went on tentatively: "They were just like things that are always around, if you see what I mean... Like trees, eh? ... or ... things."

Buku ini penuh pertanyaan tentang orang-orang yang pergi dan hanya kita ingat samar-samar, apakah ingatan itu sesuai dengan realita atau kita cuma mengingat hal-hal yang bahagia aja?

Aku merasa paling resonate dengan arc Snufkin di sini. Dari Snufkin yang awalnya buru-buru pergi ke selatan tanpa pamit, lalu saat kembali justru susah-payah mencari surat yang ditinggalkan Moomintroll untuk dia (yang nggak Snufkin temukan karena, realitanya, Moomin nggak pernah meninggalkan surat untuk dia). Aku punya seorang teman yang udah tiga tahun nggak kutemui, kita nggak pernah bertukar selamat tinggal karena yah, kupikir, kita toh bakal ketemu lagi kan? Tapi namanya hidup nggak ada yang tau dan sekarang kita udah lost contact. I can, of course, try to reach out to them, yang mana udah pernah kulakukan dengan hasil nihil. Di satu titik, aku merasa nggak enak mengganggu ketenangan hidupnya. Sama seperti yang Snufkin bilang di buku ini: "Perhaps it isn't so difficult to find people who are hiding themselves and get them to come home again (...) But why, though Snufkin. Leave them alone. Perhaps they want to be left in peace too." Akhirnya, aku dan Snufkin sama-sama memilih untuk menunggu, fokus ke kehidupan kita masing-masing. Dan, karena musim mulai berganti, kita mengemas barang-barang untuk pergi.

Really amazing. In this episode, Jansson created a spookily accurate allegory of the characteristic symptoms of November melancholy and depressed people in general, but she maintained the quirky and playful essence of the other Moomin books. Worth a read this time of year or any time you feel like you're on the edge of insanity.
