I LOVED this book. About one third of the way in, I started to get this light feeling in my chest that I've come to recognize as the feeling of falling head over heels with a story and its characters.

The plot is clever, the characters endearing, and the art is fun. This book sets up the story for more to come, and I'm already impatiently waiting for the next book. Absolutely wonderful, and I urge any fantasy lovers to to give it a try (this is also a great first graphic novel if you're looking to try the genre.)

Spectacular narrative that starts with a bang, then slows into the daily life of self-doubt and questioning ones path. Ries has created a marvelous world that draws you into every page, with wonderfully soft color pallets and clean line work, this is a feast for the eyes.

So this was my debut into graphic novels and I will say that I loved it more than I thought I would. Received this in a book box and had it sitting on my shelf for some time because I really didn't think I would like it since I'd never been much for comics or Mange. Something I believe has changed after this.

So the book is following Nyneve who has hair longer than most and in a world where the longer your hair is the more powerful your magic is you'd think she'd love it. However, her father was killed because of the length of his hair because with more power also comes the thought process of other that you are more of a threat. So she tries her hardest to hide it with a spell. Since she kind of sucks at having control of her magic no one really suspects anything.

It's discovered that she has longer hair than she leads on to believe and is smart. This has the Witch Guard wanting to recruit her. Considering what happened to her father she wants nothing to do with this and on impulse decides to chop off all her hair which of course makes the Witch Guard upset causing Nyneve to run from her home to escape the consequences.

Loved the pictures and loved the story so far. Enjoyed the fact that I can love the character while also finding her a bit on the childish side for what she did. A very good introduction to graphic novels and I can't wait to read the next one to see where he journey takes her.

Read the free webcomic. Set in a world where hair length determines power, but too much power can get you declared dangerous.. An interesting look at power, belonging, and rebellion.
