This book came as an extra in an Owl Crate. I read like 30 pages the first night and finished the rest the next day in one sitting. Overall I enjoyed the story and characters. I liked the fact there is a trans character, Prill, and that all the characters are POC. The artwork is well done. The story itself does read more like a setup for a longer story, which is fine, but I have a critique/some thoughts of the end & the additional web comic content I’ll put below.

Spoiler-ish: I kind of wish the book ended a few pages before it does because page 249 reads like a book one end with a hint there will be more. Instead, it keeps going but then abruptly cuts off which isn’t as tidy as it would be had it ended a few pages earlier. It could also have kept going to resolve the situation that arises, but having found out the book ends on Ch 4 from the webcomic while there’s is a Ch 5-6 on the site, it possibly would’ve had to go on too long into the next chapter to tidily end anywhere in Chapter 5. I read the additional chapters on the site and enjoyed how the story continued and additional LGBT+ representation. Hopefully the story will continue on.

3.5 maybe 4 stars
I really liked the diversity in this novel, the art work it's amazing
Witchy had a lot of potential, looking forward to see how the story developes

Really enjoyed the unique magic system

This was interesting and very colorful. Not enough to hook me though and make me seek out the second volume.

That’s the ending!?!?! I’m so confused because this book just ends in what appears to be the middle of the story. There is no confirmed sequel for this book and that’s how it ends!?!?

This book is confusing, while at the same time very easy to understand the basic. If your hair is long, you should be good at magic. If your good at magic, you will be conscripted to the royal guard. But then they start talking about scopes, channeling magic, and history of a world not really explained in the first place and it all becomes too much.

I enjoyed the diversity and the transgender representation in this book. I can appreciate a story trying to do different things but there wasn’t enough to the story for me to grasp its full origins and meaning to rate it higher.

I really loved the magic system in this read. I also really enjoyed the art style and found this to be such a fast pace story. I also really enjoyed how this book packed quite a punch in regards to diversity.i liked how this book tackled so many different fantsay like elements like a magic school and alas a magic quest element. I think that the some the end was tad rushed but found it to be fun read and would def read more in this series in the future.

Absolutely enjoyed this graphic novel!

The art in this is so beautiful and full of emotion.

The story is interesting but the pacing is very fast and the world doesn't feel as developed.
