I just think there were a few too many plot holes, or that maybe it hadn't really been thought out properly? I was really really confused about the witch burnings and all the stuff to do with your hair length. I don't understand why you would be bullied for having short hair but you can also be killed for having hair that's too long?

"If others pull you from the darkness, it's because they believe your life is worth living. Don't push them away because you don't feel you deserve it."
This is ideally a 3.5 for me, but I usually round up reviews since goodreads doesn't let us be that nuanced.
This is definitely an intriguing start to this story, and I can definitely see myself catching up on the webcomic and overall story when I have the time, but I'm pleased to have been introduced to this via my Owlcrate. It's an interesting premise - the length of one's hair determines magical power - but there are some things about the world that I don't really get yet, and they're hard to look past for me.
If having hair that's too long is deemed threatening, and ends up a death sentence in the end, then why don't people just trim it? Keep it long enough that you're still fairly powerful for whatever job you need to do and to keep suspicions at bay (and not chop it all off like our poor panicked main character Nyneve did). If parents kept their kids hair trimmed from a young age, how would anyone know any different? I did look up the Twitter account where updates to the webcomic get posted, and it looks like (based on a very quick glance at little preview images for the new weekly pages) that hair might not even grow back in this world - so one trim might be all that was needed?
I assume some of this stuff is covered further into the story, so I do look forward to diving into it. But from what this collected book gave us thus far story-wise, I just have a lot of questions.
I do want to point out that this series is shaping up to be quite diverse, which is absolutely amazing to see and one of the things that makes me really want to keep going to see if the story ends up more explained and such as it goes.

This book was soooo cute! I loved the artwork and the storyline. I also loved how diverse it was. The main character was awesome, but I really wanna see more of some of the side characters in future volumes!
