Such a cool concept for a graphic novel. Looking forward to the rest of this story, when it comes out. All hail Banana the raven, Prill and the tree lady with the glowing eyes

In the kingdom of Hyalin, the length of a witch's hair shows how much power they have. For Nyneve, whose father was killed in a witch burning for having too much power, her long hair is more of a curse than a blessing. Witchy follows Nyneve as she and her fellow students take the test that will determine whether they are conscripted by the Witch Guard -- the very institution that killed Nyneve's father.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about Witchy. The world of Hyalin was incredibly interesting and well-developed. The author perfectly walked the line of explaining what rules governed the magic system and leaving some elements open for further exploration in the next installment.

My biggest complaint about Witchy was that I wanted more -- more of Nyneve's growing friendships, more of her mom's backstory, and a bit more at the end that would've helped explain
what Nyneve hopes to accomplish by leaving the rebels and going off on her own
. It will be really interesting to see where the story goes next.

I just accidentally closed my review without saving it and now I cry.

I DNF’d this about 20 pages from the end. They just kept bringing up things that made no sense (about the kingdom, and their magic and how it works, etc) with no explanation. You can’t put a whole new world of fantasy into a short graphic novel AND add in a ton of characters without spending more time/pages on world and character building. Just not my favorite.

I loved it, I just hate when stories don't have a real ending, and no date for a second book.

I really wanted to love this more than I did. I really enjoy most witch stories but I just struggled to get into this one. I did like that the cast was diverse, and that there were some nice family and friend moments in the first half. I found the artwork to be beautiful and so colorful, right up my alley for graphic novels...I just wish the story had pulled me in more.
