1,5/5. What started has an interesting piece of fantasy comic soon turn out to be more or less a lot of causal talk between teenagers in a fantasy story. Not enough action, not enough magic and in the end just not deliver what it had promised.

I am still a little new to the graphic novel world so I don't have much to compare to while I write this review, but we all have to start somewhere. I enjoyed this book and the main character Nyneve who is unique and strong, but doesn't realize it and is still trying to come into her own. She struggles with the death of her father who was executed for having too long of hair (the longer your hair the stronger your magic). I adore her mother who is fierce and strong and she is so supportive of Nyneve. Their relationship is so wonderful and I could feel their connection. I am curious as to whether this is going to be a series. The end makes you feel that way, but I'm not seeing much info on that. Overall it was a solid read and I'd like to see what happens to the characters.

While Witchy definitely has interesting world building, I had a hard time getting into it. The art just didn't really work for me, unfortunately. And I found it quite hard to actually follow the story, as everything moved very slowly, but new scenes weren't really introduced either, which meant I had to infer a lot from context. All this made it quite a tiring read for me, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped.

I’d read some of this online a while back but it was nice to sit down with a physical copy and read more of Nyneve’s story. I love a good witchy graphic novel.
