The art & the dialogue are great, but it's really the mood & the world building, the mythology & characters that are pushing this story forward. Sadness & tragedy, humor & confusion, backdropped with a vast conspiracy and a handful of charismatic iconoclasts. What more do you need?

This was definitely an awesome intro to the series and I can't wait to read the rest

it just wasn't for me.
the art and illustrations are stunning. i loved the characters and how diverse they are. i also really loved how mystical the world seems and the plot is interesting, but just not for me. it was hard to get through a lot of the times for me and i just didnt care what happens next, but i can see people enjoying this.

Ummm....I wasn’t expecting this to be so intense??? I don’t know what I was expecting honestly, but it was so freaking good! I really loved the story. It went in such a different direction than I thought it would. I loved that it didn’t hold back on the dark things that were happening within this world: the burnings, the conscriptions, and hunting down a teen who just wants to be left alone. I also really loved how the colorful illustrations meshed with the intensity of the story. This was such a good read and it’s getting a solid four stars.

The art is dark and scary; it's fabulous! The colours are lush and vibrant. And there’s diversity!
I loved how the strength of their magic was tied to the length of their hair. The story is quite simple, a young girl suffers a tragedy and wants to avoid the corrupt world she lives in. She’s forced into becoming a rebel and has to go on an adventure to find answers. It’s a very compelling story though; you easily connect with her.
I am very much looking forward to reading more of Nyneve’s story.
