This is exactly what I wanted (and continue to want) from a police crime mystery! It wasn't anything brand new and game-changing, but it delivered exactly what it promised and to great effect.

The only thing that confused me at times were all the different names. However, it is a wonderful book that has you on the edge of your seat every time!

Vaikka Harry Hole puuttuu nin sama meno jatkuu, Norja on rikollisten ja massamurhaajien pesäke ja oman käden oikeus kukkii.

My first book I've read by Mr Nesbo and I'll be returning for second helpings. Great pacing and character development. Lost a star for some plot predictability but a read with plenty of twists and turns. I love nothing more than a good ol antihero and Sonny delivers... Big. I mean who can love a junkie? Dang it... Me!! I'm actually cheering for a junkie to kill somebody. Then I start questioning what that means about me and I'm making an emergency visit to my shrink ( just kidding!). But that's how involved I was in the book. I found some of the POVs interesting like Markus, the little boy across the street. I wasn't so crazy about Martha or Kari and thought it would have been cool to somehow have just Kari... Think about THAT! Martha was a flat character for me and i needed more depth there... More of a reason to understand her motivations and decisions. Don't compare this book to Stieg Larsson as many have... That's like how now every American who-dun-it is the next Gone Girl.

Against the backdrop of a rainy Prague skyline, I finished The Son. After overcoming the cardboardness of the language, one of the reasons I don't like translations (which is what I attribute it to), I started to get into the story and root for characters. It's about a son's quest for revenge with few unexpected twists. Quite some Norse noir, but mainly just a fun read.

I imagine with the growing popularity of Norwegian crime novelist Jo Nesbo, Hollywood came looking for a property they could do a film adaptation for that didn’t carry the weight of a 10 book series ala Harry Hole.

Nesbo is mining familiar territory featuring a damaged cop with a dark past nearing retirement, the eager protege, rampant corruption within the force and a unique and colourful cast of underworld characters. Take for example Sonny Lofthus who has been in prison for over a decade, hooked on heroin and absolving the sins of his fellow inmates after his hero father’s apparent suicide to avoid disgrace. When he finds out his father was set up and killed, Sonny kicks his habit (easy) and goes on a remarkably clear-headed but blood spattered revenge spree. Suspension of disbelief required - this feels more like a movie plot for the latest Bruckheimer movie than a literary thriller. It’s made for the big screen but it’s still an enjoyable page turner.

Just a stand alone book by the master Jo Neabø. Amazing writing, controversial and complex, interesting characters, a twisted and full of unexpected turns plot, the writing once again! The atmosphere! Ugh leave me alone I love Jo Nesbø I missed his books so much I’m so glad I’ve read this one I loved it so much
