dark emotional

A gorgeous feminist take on a Greek myth I hadn’t even heard of

i read tsoa and circe roughly a year ago and ngl i had forgotten how talented madeline miller is

i let galatea sit in my mind for a WHILE and i didn’t even remember that i read it. it was probably good at the moment, but the fact that i can’t remember ANYTHING from the story tells me it’s not my cup of tea after all. but i can see how it can be a favorite for some people!

This story is brief and beautifully composed. Galatea (the character) leaves a strong impression. Her narration, her voice, her actions- you quickly get a feel of who she is and the world she's trapped in.
I wanted her to have a happier ending, but that wasn't the point of the story. Her husband's death was quite satisfying, and the description of death grasping her was beautiful- and also satisfying, in a way.
