This is my favorite of the series so far, even though very little takes place in Three Pines. Food, family, nature, and a solid mystery make for a lovely read. Glad to get a better handle on Peter, who always gives me the heebie jeebies.

The history lesson was great, I did not realize Quebec had such a rich, yet violent, history. Another jewel for Louise Penny's crown of achievement. The emotions run high as old things are resolved and old wrongs are righted. Excellent read.

I like the three pines stories. I could do without the detective’s romance with wife but it’s just a minor annoyance. The only other thing is that I strongly dislike Peter and Clara and get irritated at them being assholes and being told over and over again how good they are. The actual murder in this one is a bit convoluted and doesn’t quite work for me but I’m not mad about it.

BANGER. A1 performance from king Armand. Love it. Invested. Enthralled.

Listened to this story for the second time and I feel like I enjoyed it better the second time around- would give it 3.5 stars now. Again, not one of my favorite, and likely because it doesn't take place in Three Pines, but instead in another setting- resort get away. Armand and his wife are celebrating their anniversary at this "inn" and become involved in investigating murder- which involves two of their friends/acquaintances from Three Pines- Peter and Claire Morrow. Interesting way in which the person was murdered and I found that part of the story most intriguing- how did it happen?

4.5 stars. Liked the change of scenery for this one!
