A Rule Against Murder

BANGER. A1 performance from king Armand. Love it. Invested. Enthralled.

Listened to this story for the second time and I feel like I enjoyed it better the second time around- would give it 3.5 stars now. Again, not one of my favorite, and likely because it doesn't take place in Three Pines, but instead in another setting- resort get away. Armand and his wife are celebrating their anniversary at this "inn" and become involved in investigating murder- which involves two of their friends/acquaintances from Three Pines- Peter and Claire Morrow. Interesting way in which the person was murdered and I found that part of the story most intriguing- how did it happen?

4.5 stars. Liked the change of scenery for this one!

Ridiculously in love with Gamache!

This may have been my favorite of the series so far. Chief Inspector Armand Gamache and his wife Reine-Marie are celebrating their anniversary in an inn not far from the village of Three Pines. There is a dysfunctional family, a murder, lots of suspects, and revelations about some of Gamache's own family history.

Louise Penny creates wonderful characters and paints beautiful pictures of the places where her stories take place. I have learned more about Armand Gamache as a person in each book. She has so many life lessons and quotable passages - I often can't resist reading portions aloud to my husband even though he is not reading the books.

This was my first read from this series and I was kind of disappointed. The plot took a long time to get going and the motive seemed overly complicated and unlikely with the method of  murder itself being even more so. Some of the dialogue between characters was honestly bizarre. I think I don't get the authors humor. There was some boring filler/side stories that I thought dragged the whole thing out.

I might try another in the series as the middle of the story was good and had my attention and I was impressed with the TV series.
