While I initially thought it would be nice to have a story not set in Three Pines (I mean how many people can get murdered in a small village before you have to start asking questions?) in the end I longed for the comfort of the green. The back story about the Morrow family could have been a nice plot filler but these people were wretchedly horrible and I hope we don't have the 'pleasure' of spending more time with them. Except for maybe Bean. The whodunnit aspect of this story was a bit too slow and convoluted.

Louise Penny's way with words and how she weaves the mystery are so spectacular. She is making me fall in love with Quebec, and Chief Inspector Armand Gamache

Book 4 reveals new wrinkles in the Gamache series, very intriguing! Also, I am starting to figure things out a little earlier in the mystery, hah!

I really enjoyed this mystery novel. All of the characters were interesting.
I was also amused by the Winnie the Pooh reference.

This is by far the most compelling book of the series so far. The writing is way more engaging and the pacing was great.

In the 4th installment of the Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series, Gamache is taking some personal time to celebrate his anniversary with his beloved wife. They visit a beautiful resort in the Canadian wilderness every year. This year the Morrow family is also there and they spend some time getting to know them and all their drama. When one of the daughters ends up dead after a confrontation, Gamache has to get to the bottom of all of their secrets to find out who killed her.

I'm glad this series is finally clicking for me. I have heard such great things but it's been a struggle for me so far. This book has an interesting case with lots of intriguing characters. They aren't always likable but they do make for compelling reading! I loved how Three Pines was incorporated here in a way that was outside of the village. It also allowed time to focus more on Gamache and his personal life. Overall, this is a huge step up for me from the previous books and I'm finally at a place where I'm not just making myself read the next one. I actually want to.

I've been on a binge, and am going to continue. The mystery element is so poor, and the character development is so rich. I wish Louise Penny would just leave off the mystery and write interesting stories. I'm hooked. Need to continue getting caught up!

I thought I had this one figured out. Totally wrong. Love the depth of character we got from Peter and Clara. I hope this continues with all the characters as the series progresses.
