Louise Penny is quickly becoming a favorite. Transported to Manoir Bellechasse. The plot and character build up is excellent. Then the "who done it" begins.

This was my favorite of th series since the first book. The actual mechanics of the murder were less of a focus than exploring the complexity of the family relationships, and I thought there was a lot of sympathy developed there. It was also very interesting to see the connections made to the inspector's family history, and I enjoyed getting a more in depth examination.

While I jumped right in and quickly got into this book, it felt like it took me forever to get to the end. By the last fourth I was just mentally going "TELL ME WHO DID ITTTTTTT." I had trouble feeling much for the cast of horrible characters, and the resolution of the mystery was kind of disappointing. For me, the most interesting characters (besides Gamache and his team, who I love) were Bert Finney and Bean. I enjoyed the subtle hints regarding them, as well.

Engaging airplane read, with interesting mystery plot. Nothing highly memorable, but nice way to pass the time. Recommended for fans of cozy mysteries and Louise Penny.
