Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts by Rebecca Hall was really interesting. I thought it was going to have more about the slave revolts but I like how she included information about her research. As someone with the degree in history, I really enjoyed how she explained her research process and the difficulties she faced. I also like how she made the book a graphic novel. I think it fit really well with the information she was trying to relay.

My rating - Two Stars.
I enjoyed this book but I didn't love it. I found this book interesting and I think the information in the graphic novel need to known. The writing was okay and the atmosphere was fine also the paced of plot was okay. I have mix feeling the illustrations but I found the cover of book stunning and the atmosphere was okay.

This is a must-read.

I look forward to seeing what else this author publishes in the future.

A graphic novel which is part memoir about doing research, and what the author found from her research.

In this book, the author brings history to life by crafting plausible stories about the revolts. This is a must-read for history buffs, research lovers, and anyone who wants to learn more about what happened in the past. This book would be an excellent source of teaching children in the classrooms.

"The more women onboard a slave ship, the more likely a revolt."

Dr. Rebecca Hall and Hugo Martínez have done something remarkable with this book, working to correct the historical narrative around revolts during slavery. The book is written through Hall's perspective, expertly documenting the mixed emotions of this type of archival research. Glimpses into this type of academic legwork are rare, and this book shines a light on how much effort is expended to research and rewrite white-washed history. The illustrations are next level, as Martínez's careful intention and meticulous execution elevate this work to a new level. All around amazing read.

Rebecca Hall’s graphic novel truly shows how much the past is embedded in our present through her research and powerful illustrations.

I went in expecting more history then I got but this was still a solid read. Very challenging to be reminded of our history and made me a little sad when choosing to read at night.

I liked the authors hopeful message and thought she did a great job by adding that in for the last chapter otherwise I would have been left with this feeling of dread.

I didn't love the art style but it didn't take away from my reading experience. Would recommend for anyone who likes reading books about academia and history.
