important and fascinating and horrific part of history. makes me even more angry at my state of florida and the dipshit of a governor that we have, attempting to erase this part of history.

stopped for a bit when i hit the first "measured use of historical imagination" - i don't know why i wanted HISTORICAL FACT, when, in reality, so much is just not available since it wasn't captured. maybe it felt like a cop out? i got over it, and i did appreciate conversation with the author in the end that there was a lot of fact within the historical fiction, in how the city was depicted, and even with how enslavers were informed on what to look out for if a potential revolt were being planned.

The actual information shared was scant. Mostly graphic, less novel. Still an important message, but could have been more in depth. Better for older young readers. Does mention death and rape.
