This book is so so important, and it's impressive how much it manages to say in under 200 pages. I wasn't fully lucid when I read this and I regret that because it's such an important piece.

I really appreciated the insight about the assumption that women can't lead slave revolts, the complex history of the beginnings of slavery, and how modern racism prevents us from learning about this awful part of history.

For a graphic novel, it communicates so much about its topic. I also appreciated the autobiographical way in which it was told. Amazing book.

Beautifully done. The emotion of the situations really comes through with the graphic format. The content is obviously very heavy, but there is a tone of hope that brings a lot of light. It’s an honor to live in a time where we can know more about these brave women, and I hope historians  like Hall can continue to reveal stories like these.
