This is an instant favorite for me, and potentially my new favorite book- I've never read something so beautifully written. While basketball is the topic in the title, it's about so much more; if anything, Abdurraqib leverages basketball as a topic to draw deep topics out of and to convey his feelings towards home. I've been saying for awhile I wanted to get into poetry and I didn't expect this book to deliver as heavy as it did in that department (even though there's few stanzas, the paragraphs he architects are built upon foundations of poetry). Maybe I relate to his childhood more than I have other authors, maybe he captured issues I deal with better than anyone else has in words. But for the two days it took me to devour this book I felt someone could vocalize things I've always struggled to. On vocalizing, I did audiobook parts of this book and went back to listen to my favorite parts; since the author narrates the audiobook and does so passionately I genuinely believe that is the medium this book is best delivered. I can't wait to listen to the whole book on my next 8 hour road trip.
