listened to the author read/perform this memoir, was more of a free verse poem— really great way to “read” this book. Abdurdaquib uses basketball to talk about achievement, cycles of poverty, generational lessons/traumas, pride in a place… highly recommend this!!

This book is heavy on intricate prose and imagery, but that's sadly not for me. Still had some enjoyable parts. Many of the analogies felt overdrawn and melodramatic, but a few hit. Not for me, but could easily work for someone who's into this type of writing!
