This was really hard to get through, very repetitive in the sense of Sloan being “helpless” and Carter barely doing his job and basically being Sloan’s loyal puppy.
Not one of my favorite reads from Colleen. Still love her though!

So far I have loved pretty much every book written by CoHo. I guess there had to be a first bad one for me. It's this one.
This book was awful. So many things were wrong with it (I won't be able to list them all and won't even try to put words on most of those things).
But one of those wrong things was him: Asa. Jeez this guy is a piece of absolute shit. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. And his views on women send me back to the Middle-Age.
Enjoy the nightmare that follows:
« Men weren’t designed by nature to be monogamous. It’s engrained in us to spread our seed. To keep the population going. We’re breeders by default, and no matter what society tries to force upon us, we’ll be breeders until we kill ourselves off. That’s why we’re so fucking horny all the time.
Women, they’re nurturers. It’s their duty to keep the species alive. Not to create it. Besides, women aren’t into sex like men are. They crave the expression of thoughts...emotions...feelings. They want to form a bond...a lifelong connection. That’s why they push for marriage, because it’s in their biological makeup to crave a protector. A provider. They need stability, a home, a place to raise their children. Women don’t have physical cravings like we do.
So it’s only fair that we create the families for the women, but we also need an outlet to partake in our natural urges. When men fuck around, it’s different than when the women fuck around. When a man cheats, it’s purely physical. We’re attracted to a woman’s hips, to her legs, to her ass, to her tits. It’s all about the sexual act. Dick in, dick out. When a woman cheats, it’s purely mental. They’re turned on by emotions. By their feelings. If a woman fucks a man, it’s not because she’s horny. It’s because she wants him to love her. That’s why I fuck around on Sloan. And that’s why Sloan is not allowed to fuck around on me. Cheating for a man is different than cheating for a woman, and that’s a fact, proven by mother nature herself. »
Anyway. Let's get back to the matter at hand now that we're all done vomiting.
Had it been only for him, I could've gotten over it. Probably. Huh, maybe not. But neither Sloan or Carter/Luke had me really rooting for them. It was too much insta-love/lust/connection (whatever you want to add) between them to be believable for me.
And then the story just got out of control and went back and forth and back and forth again (!) with the freaking Asa situation. No kidding, this man is like a cockroach. It felt like the Apocalypse could've happened and he'd still freaking survive and make everybody freaking miserable with his presence. He came back THREE FREAKING TIMES for crying out loud !!!!!!!! Are you kidding me with this !?
Anyway, I would not recommend this book (for obvious reasons). I'll just get back to CoHo's other perfectly fine books and consider this an unfortunate mishap.

And by finished I mean couldn’t finish it. Picked it up to see what the Hoover hoopla was and I don’t get it. Tried I really did but just didn’t like the characters, the writing nothing really. Maybe I picked a bad one but maybe she just isn’t my cup of tea. I’ll leave her to the millions that love her stuff.
