This was a banger! Seamlessly, this book continues the story set up in The Bone Season. We got to see more of Paige’s relationship with her gang and the distinct personalities between them, which was fun. Shannon also managed to introduce the leaders of the underworld and explain its mechanisms super well! There was a lot of shadowy meandering and plotting, and with Paige wanting to finally gain independence and a different life, I liked following her on that journey.

Weirdly enough, I think the most interesting part of the book was her relationship with Jaxon, who was suitably intimidating, powerful, and very much not to be messed with. There were many moments when I wanted her to fight back or talk back, but his control over her, and the reluctant affection she still carried for him at times, was illustrated perfectly.

Arcturus and her relationship with him took more of a backseat to everything else here, but when he did appear, I enjoyed it. There’s a calm tenderness between them that served as a good break from all the complex elements of the book.

The ending was satisfying, and it felt like there was real payoff for a lot of the setup throughout the book. BRB, need to get to the next one.

Hell yeah

Ahhhh! So good!

The twists and turns of the plot were super satisfying. I almost don’t want to write this review because the ending of this one just makes me what to keep reading!

I will not delay! 4.5/5. The bone season had the slight edge over this one because the whole initial concept of this story like blew me away. But still this one was so good!

Hey Samantha this was mean.

No, seriously, this series has become my favourite. This book picks up immediately after the first book and it’s a wild ride of twists and turns. The last 25% of this book was WILD and I couldn’t stop reading. The characters are incredible and my girl Paige needs a BREAK already.

Incredible ending. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

So gd boring. Got rid of the best part of the first book, just got her to run around doing nothing for 400 pages for an ending you can see coming from a mile away.

I cross this into new adult/adult due to the age of the protagonist. I also cross it into dystopian due to the control the Scion government has. You might not agree with those, but that's my assessment!
