It was good and kept me interested. The characters seemed a bit flat and I felt like I didn't have a chance to care about or consider anyone.

A very good read
This is the first book in the Tommy and Evelyn Christie 1920s cosy mystery series and it's a very good debut. It made me think initially of Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence duo from a posher class.
I liked Tommy and Evelyn very much and especially their attitude towards the lower class staff in the Manor. The acerbic Aunt Em was a gem. The plot was well set out. I kind of guessed who the murderer was but I wasn't sure about their motive.
It will be interesting to see how the characters evolve over the next few books.

I really like this plot, but I cannot get over the sexism/internalized misogyny in this book. It's historical so there's going to be some sure, but most of the sexism in this book come from our FMC herself all the while she's going on about equal rights blah blah while then calling her thoughts on the murder "her little ideas" and stereotyping women. Then her husband bursts out with his whole embarrassment he's talking like a woman. Men think before they speak unlike women. There's also the fact that a lot of the minor characters are interesting and seem to have nice depth and are well rounded. Unlike our two MCs who are quite flat and extremely simple. I am assuming they can solve this murder because they do not get distracted by any extra thoughts. It's all so annoying. However I really want to see who did it so I may come back. I've quit twice now and I'm only half way through.
I was in the mood for something light and engaging, and this delivered. The main characters were both extremely likable with a wonderful relationship. As with most cozies I have enjoyed, the cast of characters outside the main were flamboyant and a bit exaggerated. Some of them were downright unlikable. However, this in no way took away from the story. If I get the chance, I will definitely be reading more from this series and from this author. Very much worth the read.
Cute, cozy mystery I picked up from Stuff Your Kindle Day. It's a quick read, just a couple hundred pages. The author did a good job creating both likeable and not so likeable characters and a good story to set up Evelyn and Tommy as a sleuthing team. I'm looking forward to reading the next couple books in the series.
