Rather by accident I picked up the graphic novel version of this story, but in reflecting after-the-fact I'm certainly not complaining. It's a lovely little story and I think my experience reading it for the first time was improved with the accompanying visuals, which range from terrifying to beautiful.

I've seen the movie more than I've read the book. The book is possibly creepier that the movie.
Moderate: Body horror

The story is clever and creepy as is typical for Neil Gaiman, but for some reason I am still finding it challenging to fawn over his stories as so many students and friends of mine do. I appreciate the imaginative storytelling that Gaiman harnesses to create worlds I certainly couldn't envision. But I'm just not as compelled by his stories as I think I ought to be.

“Because…when you’re scared but you still do it anyway, that’s brave.”
I first stumbled across this book at a book fair when I was in elementary school. I read it, was seriously terrified, and then begged my mom to throw it out. Fast forward about 8 years and the kids I babysit want to desperately watch the Coraline movie. I sit to watch with them and am not only impressed with its creativity, but am hit with such a blast of nostalgia. I went home and lamented to my mom that I had her throw the book away cause I wanted to read it as “an adult.” She went down to the basement and voila! There was my copy. It’s been one of my favorite books ever since. Neil Gaiman - it’s been an honor having you play such a huge role in my love for reading and for horror.
I splurged and bought myself this gorgeous edition from LitJoy. I highly recommend any fan of Coraline to do the same!
