Read my book review of Sariah Wilson’s a Vow of Embers, book two of the Eye of the Goddess. This is a fantasy romance steeped in Mythology.

After the first book I was so excited for this release and I’m a little let down. So much of the book was repetitive and rehashing the same themes. For how cunning the FMC was in the last book, this book it felt like she was missing things that were right in front of her. The last 20% of the book was very action-packed (and a tough read at parts, TW), but it still felt like with all the interesting characters and subplots the author could have given us a bit more movement in this book. It felt very much like a filler until the third book is released.

The book picks up right where the 1st one left off and I was excited at first but then also couldn't remember some of the smaller details that I wish the author filled in. Overall, this book was incredibly frustrating and didn't find any of the characters or story develop throughout the book like I wanted. It felt stagnant and a toxic viscous circle, where many things could have progressed and dug deeper, but didn't. The supporting characters could have been flushed out more too. Its not enemies to lovers and not slow burn it just felt like a miscommunication trope with the two MCs being incredibly stubborn and ignorant.
However, I will most likely read the next one, because still interested in the world and maybe the story will get somewhere.
