While this is enemies-to-lovers, the primary trope is miscommunication and it is heavy-handed throughout the book to the point of actually muttering "oh come on" at certain points.

I enjoy the fantasy world and the mysteries that Wilson built in A Tribute of Fire but they were both almost entirely backburnered throughout this second book to focus on the infuriating relationship. At best they were breadcrumbs to remind the characters and the readers what the purpose was. Unlike most second books in a trilogy which is used for character development and dropping lore, this book seemed to keep us on a carousel until the last 15%.

I look forward to the final book where Wilson will refocus on the world and mysteries and less on miscommunication.

This book 2 was a highly anticipated read for me because I love Tribute of Fire!

Overall, I was happy to be back with Lia, Xander, and the adelphia. I loved getting to met Xander’s closest friends.

The main trope of this book is longing! Omg! The tension for Lia and Xander was just perfection. I was hoping by like 80% into the book the hot and cold of their relationship would be resolved. But then I remembered that these characters are extremely strong willed so, the writing was in line with the characters.

So all through Book 1 we get hints of approaching evil and what it has to do with the prophecy. I didn’t catch any more hints about this until the very end, but maybe I was so distracted by Xander idk.

I am happily waiting for book 3! 😁
