I tried, really I did. I had such high hopes for this book because it sounded so promising! Needless to say, the more I read on the less compelled I felt to continue it.

The characters okay but I still felt there were a few problems with the book. The whole "you don't have my permission to die" from Eris got tiring really quickly, not to mention she begins to get emotionally attached to Sona even though she clearly had a relationship with Milo in the beginning?? So confusing, and honestly don't understand how the author can condone that in a YA book. The story and world building were fine enough but they were poorly executed, in my opinion, and made me want more...and not in a good way.

Kinda sad because I really wanted to like this book and I left feeling disappointed :/

ended up enjoying myself enough, but found the first few chapters extremely rough. honestly everything just felt kind of bland, particularly the world and characters.

There's something about this that felt unfinished like I walked in on an entertaining movie but missed the first thirty minutes. Despite that I still had a good time because I love mechs and powerful women and their love for one another, even with the unpolished plot and writing I'm excited to continue the series.

It's a decent book. But I side with Milo. The gearbreakers are very quick to believe Sona. Yes she could act quick and have all the Vakyries in the Hallows on the first night. They would all be dead. But just bc that didn't happen, doesn't mean it won't happen later on. She is part of an elite troop that hates the gearbreakers and wants them dead. Bc once the gearbreakers are gone, Godolia rules everything. So Milo thinking that Sona will betray them later and very spectacularly is justified in my opinion.
I like Sonas anti-hero realization, don't like the mass murder.
The ending is incredibly good! The plottwist is exquisite and makes me excited to read the next book!

Idk I just didn’t connect with this at all. It felt very flat and kinda corny. I think honestly I’m realizing I’m getting too old for most YA books (this is not the fault of the YA books to be fair but)

In a world where gigantic robots are part of a ruling empire’s weaponry, and they enhance Pilots with technology to create cyborg-like humans who operate the machines, a group of talented rebels find ways to take them down. When one of the rebels, Eris, is captured, she receives help to escape in the unlikeliest of places – a Valkyrie Pilot named Sona, who has her own agenda of defeating the empire from the inside. Gearbreakers tells the story of how these two teenagers join forces to accomplish a common goal and begin to develop feelings for each other along the way.

She said we could be mad at her for the ending and so I guess we can be.

I should have just DNFed this book. It ate up so much of my time, and I never wanted to pick it up.

Main complaints:
- The plot moved too fast. I didn't care about any of the big things that happened. There was no time to get comfortable with a place or an idea before we had to move on again.
- All of the relationships were shallow. Even the love interest/ main relationship felt forced and robotic. (No pun intended) This made all character deaths feel pointless. None of it saddened me. Everything would have been better if the relationships had been explored more.
- Finally, this feels like a fanfic, and not a good one. I wasted way too much time on the book.
