This is a hard book to rate since it was written for a younger audience. I didn't know anything about it besides the praise I'd heard so I was at first put off by the young-tone but I got over that quickly. It was an easy read, well-written, and funny.

I wish it had even continued past the timeline where it ended. I love the chance to read about other perspectives and cultures so this was a great opportunity to read about life on an Indian reservation in Washington so this was perfect for that. Maybe I would enjoy his other books even more.

This was the second time I read this book and it was as moving as the first time I read it. I'm excited to teach this book in an Honors class with the theme of The American Community. Alexie has a talent for being honest about his culture. He not afraid to point out the flaws and beauty. Junior is a very relatable character for teenagers. He is not only trying to figure out who he is as an individual but also figures out his role in his reservation, social, educational, and class culture. The book has a lot of humor but handles the sensitive and tragic moments very well. It is a story about all the tribes we belong to whether they are voluntary or not.

This was a good book. It is written for young adults and has pictures in it, but I am an adult and I loved this book. It was funny, but at the same time there were a lot of sad moments. I'm going to a book club that will be talking about it tomorrow night, so it will be interesting to hear what others had to say, especially if there are any Indians that come to the discussion.
