I have such as fun time with this book. Reading Greek mythology in female’s perspective along with strong feminist values is so refreshing even though if it is really harsh truths in female’s daily experience. The author of this book brought up a lot of relevant to women’s daily struggles in reality and mythology. How often women got punished due to their husbands or lovers’ actions.
I was surprised to see Ariadne’s sister, Phaedra’s perspective included so that’s pleasant to see!

This did not live up to the hype for me. Instead of feeling like epic poetry, along the lines of Madeline Miller’s retellings, it felt more like a YA fantasy novel. Not bad just not a favorite.

1.5 stars. So frustrating. This book started out promising but quickly peters out once our protagonist arrives on Naxos. Ariadne has virtually no personality and simply bends to the whims of whichever man is closest--Minos, Theseus, Dionysus, her sons. She's supremely incurious about the world and seems oblivious to the lives and feelings of others, including the maenads who she's lived with for years and her poor younger sister, who she essentially writes off even though she could sail to see her or even just send her a letter literally ANYTIME after Dionysus arrives. Phaedra is a little more well-rounded, but her ultimate fate is a huge bummer. I honestly can't recommend this book. If you want a re-telling of Greek myths, go find Madeline Miller instead.

Overall message of the book: men are the worst.
The story was sad and slow, ultimately just hard to power through.

I don't think that I like retellings of Greek mythology. All the men are too bad to even care. The writing was boring and it felt too slow just for the sake of filling space. I will not read again from the author for sure. the ending was good though... I'm not sure it was worth pushing through it, but it made me sad enough to be 3. 75 stars

This left me a little bit broken. I'm sad, and angry, and frustrated. And I believe there's a piece of this story that will stay with me for a while. I just hope it's a long while. I don't wish to forget it.
