I loved the mix of folklore and spooky aspects. I think this was definitely different than other horror/ thriller books I’ve read and I think audiobook is the way to go. Having a narrator with an irish accent to set the scene was really nice. Some aspects didn’t add up for me and made me frustrated.
How is it that Mina and the rest were able to make it to the coop during the day but they can’t go back the same way and get out? Is it because where they ventured in isn’t safe either? or that they can’t find their way back? This aspect confused me a bit. I was also so mad that Daniel died the way he did because he literally had the information that these things can copy the humans faces… like come on boy you know John has been dead for DAYS. There would be no way he would be alive in the woods; it felt both really dumb and in character cause he’s very kind and probably not in the right mind but UGH. Also so called it that Madeline was not human. Interesting that they can talk then and choose not to? or maybe it’s just only the more adaptable advanced ones that can go out in the light.
I loved this ending and I am looking forward to the next book coming out in October.

Appreciated the blend of Irish lore with gothic horror, it felt like an Irish version of an Edgar Allen Poe story. It grabbed me from the beginning and made me want to keep going to find out what would happen next. Good blend of mysterious questions raised and then answered.

Not a representation of the book, just a personal choice due to the content.

This was pretty good! It had its spook factor. I know there is a movie out based on this book, but I don't know if I want to watch it after reading this novel, I would be afraid of the movie not being as good. I loved the mythology and the setting. Original. Each character was relatable.
