i love youngmi’s podcast and comedy, but if i hadn’t been a fan beforehand i’m not sure i would have bothered with this. i admire her ability to honestly reflect on her life and her family history, but the book is so haphazardly written and doesn’t reflect her humor very well.

begging little, brown to hire a korean copyeditor because I am all for being hangul-forward (rather than just using romanization or transliteration) but if you're going to do that, then you shouldn't have spelling and spacing errors on nearly every other word/phrase in the book that's written in hangul. should this not be the bare minimum editing standard when you're including a different language and script in a publication ??

everyone who's not korean shut the fuck up about this book challenge. read like a 250 page long script for a tiktok video which was at times a great thing and at other times a not so great thing. ppl who don't get it (the core message) won't get it and that's kinda sad to me but it is also what it is. absolutely did make me laugh and cry quite a few times which is awesome.

Intense memoir of half Korean half white American woman. Trigger warnings for sexual assault, verbal abuse, drug use and emotional manipulation.
