Reading the book description, it checked all of the boxes for me: dark, psychological, a big secret involved, suspense... but it was hard for me to get through.

“The hunger was always there, beating fists against the tight seal I had fastened around it, but I pushed it down. It hurt too much to be big. Too big to fit in the clothes that smelled of Linda and the streets. Too big to hide. Too big to love.”

Let me write a review while stuck on the tram.

I got this book out of a video-recommendation on tiktok and then I let it sit on my shelf for five months just to start it right on the first day of spring.
Naturally, having to wait, some expectations built up and I have to say I was absolutely positively surprised by this book.
It's powerful in its description of a childhood gone wrong and its echo through your whole life. At times I forgot I was reading fiction and thought of it as a real true crime story.
It's heartbreaking in many little ways, exactly like real life.
It's a perfect portrait of the many many ways adults fail children and then blame them for the wreckage.
I absolutely recommend it.

Eerie, dark, and interesting. You keep reading to find out what happens and why no one helped.

Simultaneously one of the best and worst things I've ever read.
