I would give this book 3.5 stars if possible. I read this book to challenge myself regarding organizations, religion, and race. I do wish this book was longer, I found I was hoping for more.

You should read this book. Channing Brown’s words are more powerful than any review I could write.

“Our only chance at dismantling racial injustice is being more curious about its origins than we are worried about our comfort.” (P. 117)

I have been following Austin Channing Brown on Instagram for some time now, so I was glad to finally get my hands on her book.

Just so everyone knows, (because I don't think it's clearly marketed), this is an essay compilation memoir for black women - NOT a guidebook with actionable items or solution for white women. It's also heavy on the faith aspect, which isn't going to be a relatable way for everyone to absorb the message.

The last chapter is absolutely 5 stars - every word of it. Very strong finish. I'll be taking that hope/hopelessness into the future.

This is a short, incredibly powerful book that packs a powerful punch. Austin Channing Brown shares her experience as a Black, Christian woman in the United States effectively. I suspect I will be rereading this in the future.
