This book is less fun and more danger for the kids than the first two books, but I still really like it. When I finished it I felt really melancholy, just like the kids themselves were feeling, bc it feels like the series is over. Even though there’s literally another book that I haven’t ever read plus the one abt Mr Benedict as a kid which I love very much.

Nothing really happened in this book. I have no clue where there is even another book in the series.

The kids would give this 4 stars, but I actually got a little tired of the Ten Men in the middle, so I’m downgrading. The kids are still fun, the teamwork is still good but... meh. Still maybe I should trust my children. One way or another, we’re on to the fourth!

This book, like the others in this beautifully written series, was full of twists and turns riddled with excitement and mind boggling wit. I'm sad that it's over, because I grew to love Kate, Sticky, Constance, and Reynie, and I saw a little of myself in each of them. I can't wait to see what Mr. Stewart comes up with next though, I'll be polishing my spectacles and reorganizing my bucket while I pace to and fro and try to read his mind. Farewell Benedict Society :)

This series has taken over my life. Or at least my month for sure. And I wouldn't have it any other way. 'Maybe we should acquire a taste for bittersweet' has entered my everyday vocabulary and I think it's here to stay. Solid 5-star read, just like the rest of the books in this series. Not that I had any doubts as to that.

We enjoyed this audio book and are so bummed it’s over! So fun and full of action! I’ll miss these kids! :-)

3.75 stars. I don't remember what I rated the second MBS book, but I think this might be my least favorite so far. The main plot took a while to get going, and some of the stuff in this book felt a lot more over-the-top than in the previous two. The characters were still, great, though, and there were definitely some things I liked. Overall, though, it took me a while to read because I wasn't enjoying it as much.

To be honest... the storyline got a bit tiring. All this "Whisper" business no longer intrigued me. I found myself seeing what other people saw in the first two books: these were a poor imitation of Snicket's work, with less likable characters and more transparent writing. I think Ledroptha Cutrain is the worst named character in all time possibly. I thought Constance's ability was a little bit too out there for a series that otherwise kept human qualities pretty down-to-earth.... though I'd still say Constance was my favorite character. I still don't know why Reynie seemed like he was the main character the whole time. His character was probably the most boring. He was likable, sure, but Constance, Kate, and Sticky had a little more depth. I'm a little confused about S.Q. Pedalian's role—did Mr. Curtain love him so he kept him around, or did S.Q. love Curtain and so Curtain kept him around? Either way I would've sorted of liked to see S.Q. join their little squad and learn what real love looks like? I think the books were just a little too long, especially towards the end, and could've used with some more characters or villains at the end there.

Cute, wholesome, clever, adventure, exactly what I want from a middle grade book. Still like the first one the best.

The weakest of the original trilogy, which isn't to say it's bad, just a bit more contrived than the first two books. Doesn't feel like a natural conclusion so much as an unnecessary extension of the story.
