Like the other MBS books, we did this as our nightly read aloud and we all loved it. It gave us new big words to learn (askance, felicitous, and I can’t remember what others) and deep, complex characters to discuss. And the story is also just a lot of fun!

I don't know what to do with myself now that I've finished the original three books... might just have to start them over again.

Not as good as the others two books in the series, because of a slow start and obvious puzzles (which take the characters way too long to solve). However, the book provides a pleasing resolution to the series.

I liked this more than the second one (though still not as much as the first). There seemed more real danger and the plot about finding out about Constance's past and abilities was intriguing. It also might have been that I read it on the subway and there is nothing like being trapped in a situation with nothing to do to realize how great this book and the characters are. I liked that Mr. Benedict was part of the whole book. He represents complete good, and so it was interesting to see how the author would show him in different situations. I thought Stewart did a pretty good job of doing it without making him boring. (Happiness and goodness are the two things it seems the hardest to write about and make interesting.) Also, I Love Milligan! He is awesome, dryly hilarious, AND unassuming: the best combination for a super-secret agent.

The characters themselves remark on how life will be so different at the end once Mr. Curtain is vanquished (sorry if that's a plot spoiler, but really it's kind of obvious from the first book). They talked about how life would be less exciting and their friendship would not have the same sense of urgency as when in danger. Yet they talked too about how well arrangements had worked out. This is an interesting thing for the characters themselves to discuss how happy endings are really not so perfect. This denouement helped me in the transition from reading back to reality.

I've enjoyed so much the trip with these amazing kid characters: Constance (who gets on your nerves until she does something amazing), Sticky (so smart and you empathize with him and his anxiety), Kate (constantly plucky and resourceful) and Reynie (so perceptive). I especially love Reynie since my own talents run towards perception and I got his emotions the best.
