As a Cis person, there are aspects of this book many people will be able to get so much more from than I ever could. That being said, the writing is beyond sub-par and makes for a really frustrating read.

This is a book teenage me would have loved to read and as an adult I still enjoyed it. It was an interesting take on an apocalyptic world and didn’t shy away from some gruesome aspects.

The pace at which different things became unveiled were great. I wish I could see more of what happened at the end but I think it ended at the right spot.

Pretty entertaining read! This book is the first YA novel in years that I could actually get through, which has to mean something good. It of course is a little cringy, and kind of beat the reader over the head with the whole Angel/Seraph metaphor, but I think the raw emotion made up for it. There was a lot of anger in this book, and surprisingly a lot of body horror, but I enjoyed both. I think I'll read some of the author's later novels to see how his style has evolved.

The use of gore and body horror to emphasize brutality as well as feelings of alienation and otherness was great. White's not afraid to get a little weird with it! I was a big fan of the Bible verses sprinkled in (religious trauma gang rise up), and I like the way the story handles Theo. I kind of wish the details of the cult were explored a little more beyond the over-the-top fanaticism, but what's there is still really good

That being said, this was definitely written for teenagers (a character says "yeet" and it made me feel so old lmao). It's a little tropey and simplistic sometimes, but complaining about that is like complaining that my omelet has eggs. I thought it was kinda cute when they did it for the most part

I loved the unapologetic representation. The romance is okay I guess. I think it could've used more development but also I don't like romance in general lol
