Queer and neurodivergent teens, body horror, and found family at the end of the world.
The body horror was incredibly visceral and extremely well done, especially for a debut novel. Everything was described so vividly and in a way that you couldn't not picture all the gruesome transformations happening.
The exploration of self beyond the confines of an oppressive organized religion was also incredibly well done and very heartfelt, while working perfectly in the horror setting.
The end of the world religious cult that AJW cooked up here was the perfect embodiment of using religion to justify bigoted views and violence, while the perpetrators see themselves as being better than and holier than thou.
There was so much that I loved here, and I can't wait to read more from this author and see how his writing and storytelling has progressed.
