Nostalgic and I will be reading the rest of them now...

Fun and quick read

not even a proper book, imho.
more like a pitch for a tv show, ripe with cliff-hangers and descriptions for the costume department...

I love the show, so I figured I'd try out the books. I didn't realize I already had a kindle copy on my phone! I enjoyed it, and the teaser of The Lying Game. I'll have to pick up that one, too. :)

I started watching the TV when it first came out, and I really liked it. My DVR started to get really full so I had to ditch the show. Figured the book to anything is better most of the time so why not give the series a shot. Can't say I'm disappointed, because I'm not!

I enjoyed this book. You definitely get the 2000 vibes. There definitely is a lot of topics discussed in the books, and I am surprised on how many.
There are a few things that you get annoyed by, but over all it was good.
This a much different than the show, but I think I will continue on with it and see how it goes.

i have in fact read this before but i’m re-reading cause i never finished the whole series. plus the last time i read this i was twelve soooo. honestly im kinda in love with sara shepard’s writing (minus the occasional weird descriptions of characters, but i guess that what i get from reading a book from the 2000s). i love that all the characters in the book feel much edgier and more morally grey. loving the cigarettes and the y2k vibes. i also particularly love spencer and aria more in the books i think, but not sure if that will change. i also find it fascinating that this book is essentially just the first set of A texts, a noel kahn party, and them finding ali’s body. it’s insane how short this was. you can totally see why they wanted to adapt this into a tv show though. they did the right thing.

This is one of the few incidents where I liked the show better than the book--perhaps because I saw the show first. Don't get me wrong I liked the book, however there were some things that I didn't care for. Such as the amount of smoking I'm no prude but I question the logic of that many tweens smoking. I also really question the logic of so many of them being able to drink and NO ONE questions them??? But other than that the book was very fast paced and fun to read. I kind of hate all of the main 4 and Ali as they are all bitchy to me. But at the same time I like them and think they're well rounded characters.

I was very surprised at how different the book was to the television series when it comes to the characters (from looks, to backgrounds, to motives, to parents), but I was still able to enjoy it. Will certainly be reading further books in the series.
