The thing I like about Christie is trying to figure out which clues are important and which are red herrings as I go along. It’s fun trying to solve the mystery along with the people in the book.

"The blood tie does matter..."
I loved the family dynamics in this book. Not a natural one but made. It's difficult enough to get along with people you're related to...but I wonder if knowledge matters too. Does the knowledge that you're not a biological family have a great impact on the dynamics?
Watched the 2018 and 2007 adaptations after reading and..oh boy! What an absolute transformation of the plot the 2018 version was. It completely changed the murderer and the motive. I didn't hate it, I just wonder why they went so completely off script. The 2007 version was closer to the book however, they made it a Miss Miss Marple story and killed off characters who didn't die in the book.
So now I have three versions of the story in my mind and I don't know which one I prefer, but I'm enjoying reading Christie's standalone novels.

There's some really vile shit in here - not just the racism but the ideas about how adopted families aren't real families.
Banged through this one on a lovely suitable rainy day before I sit down to knit through the new BBC adaptation of it. Be the happily reclusive old age pensioner you wish to see in the world.
Also, this time through I noticed that quite a few Christie mysteries begin with the main character being symbolically taken across a body of water by a ferryman (Evil Under the Sun, Dead Man's Folly, And Then There Were None, Towards Zero, The Man in the Brown Suit... I'm blanking. Christie nerds, assemble!)
ETA: OMG, the movie is sooooooooo much better than the book.

The boat grounded on the beach. He had crossed the Rubicon.A few minutes later Calgary negotiates his way past the housekeeper who answers the door, he refers to her as the watchdog. This sort of thing keeps me happy for years.
The ferryman's soft West Country voice said: "That will be fourpence, sir, or do you want a return?"
"No," Calgary said. "There will be no return." (How fateful the words sounded!)
He paid.

4.5 ⭐️
queen of mystery is not a light term to give an author
this is my first agatha christie mystery, and it really did exceed my expectations!!
the progression and structure of the mystery is incredible; it had me at the edge of my seat the entire time
i'm only giving this 4.5 stars because i felt like the ending was very rushed, but it was an unbelievably amazing and gripping read!!

I just found this to be a bit dull. I think, aside of Poirot, that golden age crime isn't for me.
